Statement of Unity

12/22/2017

Comments

In light of the Heaphy Report on the events in Charlottesville last summer and its claim that the formation of Congregate Charlottesville marked “a sharp conflict between the ‘old guard’ clergy and a younger, more confrontational generation of faith leaders” (p. 73), the Charlottesville Clergy Collective affirms our commitment to be united as witnesses for love, justice and racial unity.

Consistent with this witness is our respect for our varied faith traditions, which may compel us to activism in different forms.

The fidelity of our collective mission remains: we are a united body of faith leaders committed to doing the difficult work of building bridges of compassion, understanding, love, racial unity, and justice for all.
